There are numerous different events held every year on the Isle of Wight. Whether you’re sailing, cycling or running or interested in any of the many music, arts or literary festivals, Skinners Farm is a great base for you being close to Cowes and within easy reach of all parts of the Isle of Wight.
We work closely with some events and offer you some fantastic packages and deals.
The annual Memorial Ploughing Match is on April 2nd 2017, venue to be confirmed. Watch heavy horses ploughing alongside vintage and conventional tractors.
The Isle of Wight Off Road Duathlon is an exciting and challenging run bike event taking place on April 23rd 2017.
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival returns in 2017 and will run between April 29th and May 14th. Two weeks of organised walks and and many other ‘walking’ themed events, culminating in Walk The Wight – a fund raising event for The Isle of Wight Hospice which sees thousands walking across The Island from Bembridge to the Needles.
The Isle of Wight Festival of Running will incorporate the popular Needles XC Half Marathon plus the new Needles XC Marathon, Childrens Fun Run and a 5 and 10km fun run. Taking place over the weekend of June 3rd and 4th 2017, there’ll also be on site camping and entertainment. It’s one of the most spectacular half marathons, taking in views of the beautiful West Wight including the Needles, Tennyson Down and Headon Warren. It’s not for the faint hearted! There will also be the inaugural SpyVelo Long Weekend – a half Ironman distance event over three days with swim being in the sea at Colwell and culminating in the Needles XC Half. Newport Jazz Weekend brings a host of musicians from across the UK to venues around Newport for 4 days from June 1st – 4th 2017.
The Isle of Wight Festival takes place every year and attracts thousands of music fans to the Island. The dates for 2017 are 8th – 11th June. Among many others, such world famous acts as The Rolling Stones, Snow Patrol, REM, Bruce Springsteen and The Police have all performed. If you want somewhere quiet to retreat to, Skinners is just the place, being a 10 minute taxi ride away from the Festival site.
The Royal Isle of Wight County Show takes place on June 25th 2017 and is a fantastic day out for all the family with the animals taking centre stage. The County Show Ground is just 2 miles from Skinners Farm.
Round The Island Race. One of the most famous yachting races in the world,The Round The Island Race is always spectacular, with 1600 boats racing from Cowes, west to the Needles and on round the Island and back to Cowes. in 2017 it takes place on July 1st.
The world famous Cowes Week in the first week of August not only attracts thousands of yachts and makes spectacular and exciting viewing, but the town comes alive with a huge programme of entertainment. It is THE place to be in the first week of August and the legendary Cowes Week fireworks on the Friday night see the town jam packed with people and a huge party atmosphere. 2017 dates are 29th July – 5th August
Isle of Wight Garlic Festival.The show is food and entertainment at its very best. A vast array of eats, treats, sights and sounds to suit all tastes and ages. There are huge garlic and food marquees, cooking demonstrations from top Island chefs in the all new theatre kitchen, children’s entertainers, archery and a giant fun-fair. Join the fun on 19th and 20th August 2017.
Jack Up The 80s is the ultimate family-friendly Summer festival. Relive the good times of Frankie Says and Choose Life t-shirts, florescent headbands, leg warmers, legendary blockbuster movies and of course great music with acts like Paul Young, Five Star, Leo Sayer, Bad Manners, Nathan Moore and Bruce Foxton From The Jam, plus many, many more. 2017 dates are 11th to 13th August.
The Solent Swim is on September 2nd. Entries opened on January 1st and West Wight Sports & Community Centre run this amazing event which gives you the opportunity of doing something unique – that is – to swim across the Solent.
West Wight Triathlon on September 17th 2017 consists of a 600 metre pool swim, 35 km cycle around the West Wight and a 7.5 km run along the River Yar.

The Isle of Wight Literary Festival is based in Northwood House in Cowes and will run from 12th – 15th October 2017
